File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Settings
|
To use FTP to move files to and from the web server, you will need the information provided in your "welcome" email, sent when your account was first created.
There are three variables to configuring your FTP software in order to upload and download files from the web server. Please see below if you wish to use a web browser to FTP.
The Host: The host is the IP Address that was provided in your hosting welcome email. The IP Address is four sets of numbers, separated by periods. Example: 66.193.109.26
User Name: The User was also provided to you in the hosting set-up email that was sent to you. Linux® customers normally have a user name "cwsa@yourdomain.com", where "yourdomain.com" is the domain in question.
On the Windows® side, Web Studio Seattle user names are always lowercase letters, without spaces or symbols. Example: rachelz34
Password: The FTP password sent to you in the set-up email is the one used in your FTP software. Passwords are often lowercase, and may include letters and numbers, and symbols and other characters when specifically requested.
Location of web site files on the server:
Linux® Servers: The FTP access info provided will "map" you to the correct directory.
Windows® Servers: Upload all web site files to the "WEB" directory.
Linux® Customers
If you wish to FTP using a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari, use the following settings:
Direct a web browser to: ftp://username@domain.tld, where "username" is your cPanel user name, and "domain.tld" is your domain name (such as "starbucks.com"). For example: ftp://talldrink@starbucks.com
Password: use your cPanel password. Do not use your FTP password when connecting to a web server using a web browser.
