Technical Support > Email > Managing Spam

For Linux® customers only.

The default configuration is for SpamAssasin to automatically delete all known spam at the server (before being downloaded into email software such as Outlook or Entourage). This is the configuration that we recommend.

If you wish to manage spam using either of the configurations described below, please contact us first so that we may disable the auto-deletion.

A second option is to configure SpamAssassin to move (not delete) all suspected spam into a "spam box". This configuration quarantines spam on the server, available for review via WebMail. Note that large amounts of spam stored in a server-side "spam box" can quickly fill an account, causing mail delivery problems.

The option below moves or copies spam off of the server, downloading it to your personal computer. This is an obsolete solution, but may still be desirable for some users.

Using SpamAssassin® and Mail Rules in email software such as Outlook, Outlook Express or Entourage, one can automate the sorting of incoming spam.

Document Overview:

Spam Assassin labels unsolicited email with [SPAM]
Email software identifies messages marked [SPAM]
Messages with [SPAM] are sorted to a "spam" folder
